September 2026 Mail Swap: Little Joys in the Mail
September has a way of making us notice the little things. The first cool morning after a stretch of summer heat. A favourite book waiting on the bedside table. Golden light through the trees. A bird appearing outside the window just when you happen to look up.
For September’s Enchanted Postmark mail exchange, we’re celebrating those small moments with Little Joys in the Mail.
This free snail mail swap is an invitation to slow down, notice something good in your everyday life, and share a little of it with someone new through a handwritten letter.
September’s Theme: Little Joys in the Mail
Not every letter needs to contain big news. Sometimes the nicest things to receive in the mail are the ordinary details of someone else’s world.
What have you been reading lately?
Is there a bird that has been visiting your garden?
What is making your morning routine a little nicer?
Have you discovered a favourite tea, walking route, song, recipe, flower, or quiet place?
For September, your letter can simply be about the small things that are bringing a bit of colour, comfort, curiosity, or happiness into your days.
The theme was inspired in part by September’s American Goldfinch collection. Like the flash of a bright yellow bird among late-summer flowers, sometimes a tiny unexpected moment is enough to make an ordinary day feel special.
What Could You Write About?
If you’re staring at a blank page and wondering where to begin, think about the little things you’ve been enjoying lately.
You might write about:
A book you’re currently reading
A bird, flower, or other piece of nature you’ve noticed
Something you’re looking forward to
A favourite September tradition
A comforting morning or evening ritual
Something that recently made you laugh or smile
A favourite place to walk
A recipe or meal you’ve been enjoying
The changing weather where you live
A hobby or creative project you’re working on
A small kindness someone showed you
Something ordinary that you’re especially grateful for right now
You certainly don’t need to answer every prompt. Choose one or two things you’d genuinely enjoy telling someone about and let your letter unfold from there.
What to Send
For the September exchange, all you need to send is one handwritten letter to your assigned partner.
You’re welcome to decorate your envelope or use favourite stationery, but there’s no expectation that your mail needs to be elaborate. If you would like, you can also tuck in a small flat surprise.
Perhaps:
A bookmark
A favourite recipe
A sticker
A tiny drawing
A piece of pretty paper or ephemera
A small paper treasure you think your partner might enjoy
Extras are always optional.
Your letter is more than enough.
The heart of these exchanges is simply taking the time to write to another person and sending a little kindness through the post.
How the September Mail Exchange Works
The Enchanted Postmark monthly mail swaps are free to join and open to anyone who enjoys handwritten correspondence.
Registration for the September exchange opened on August 17, 2026 and remained open until September 15, 2026.
After registration closed, each participant was randomly matched with another letter writer and received their partner’s name and mailing address by email.
Participants were then asked to write their letter and have it in the mail by September 25, 2026.
That’s it.
No subscription is required, and you don’t need to be an Enchanted Postmark member to participate in the monthly exchanges.
They’re simply another way to help more handwritten letters find their way into mailboxes.
Why Send the Little Things?
It can sometimes feel as though we need an important reason to sit down and write a letter.
A birthday.
A holiday.
A major life update.
But some of the letters we remember most aren’t about important occasions at all.
They tell us what someone saw on their walk that morning. What was blooming in their garden. What book they couldn’t put down. What they made for supper. What the weather was doing outside while they sat at the kitchen table writing to us.
Those small details are what make letters feel personal.
They offer a tiny glimpse into another person’s everyday world.
And when that glimpse arrives unexpectedly in your mailbox, even an ordinary Wednesday can feel a little brighter.

The Enchanted Postmark mail exchanges began as a simple way to encourage more people to write and send real mail.
There’s something special about knowing that another person chose a piece of paper, sat down somewhere in their corner of the world, and spent a little time writing just for you.
September’s Little Joys in the Mail exchange is a reminder that connection doesn’t have to be complicated.
Sometimes it begins with noticing something small.
Writing it down.
Putting it in an envelope.
And sending it on its way.
